Teenage Engineering founder and CEO Jesper Kouthoofd said the company plans to stop making synthesizers, including the OP-1, according to an interview with Highsnobiety.
Kouthoofd said he announced the plan to his team as part of a reorganization last fall. He said the products are not the business, and that the company can be more than that.
Teenage Engineering did not immediately return a request for comment.
An audio-first catalog
Almost everything the company makes itself — the OP-1, the OP-XY, the EP-133, the TP-7, et cetera — is music or audio-focused. The OP-1 launched in 2011 and has been central to the company's success ever since.
