Tinygrad's redesigned Tinybox starts at $7,000, hits $11,000 with four AMD GPUs

Tinygrad's new Tinybox workstation offers G4 and G5 platforms, with the G4 starting at $7,000 and reaching $11,000 once four Radeon RX 9070 XT cards are added.

Tinygrad introduced a redesigned Tinybox workstation capable of holding four AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics cards, according to techradar.com. The standard G4 configuration uses a 32-core AMD EPYC processor with 32 GB of DDR4 memory and a 1 TB boot SSD.

The G4 platform starts at $7,000 and uses DDR4 memory and PCIe 4.0, while the G5 platform uses AMD's Genoa generation with DDR5 memory and PCIe 5.0 and costs $12,000 before graphics cards, memory or storage upgrades. Adding four Radeon RX 9070 XT cards costs $4,000, bringing the complete G4 configuration to $11,000 before optional upgrades.

Nvidia options include one RTX 5090 for $8,000, two RTX 5090 cards for $16,000, and RTX 6000 cards at $19,000 each or $38,000 for two. Memory can be upgraded from 32 GB to 128 GB for $3,000, with 4 TB RAID storage at $2,000 and 16 TB RAID at $6,000.

The enclosure measures 12 inches wide, 19.25 inches high and 18 inches deep and weighs 42 pounds. The system includes a 1,700 W power supply, two 1GbE network ports and an OCP 3.0 interface.

Tinygrad combines low-speed Noctua fans with liquid cooling to keep noise levels below 50 dB. A Tinygrad spokesperson said the company strongly encourages others to compete with it after criticism of the price. Tinygrad builds each workstation to order with estimated delivery between one and eight weeks.
