TSMC Q3 Revenue Jumps 51% as Samsung Foundry Lags

TSMC's third-quarter revenue reached 1.49 trillion Taiwan dollars, while Samsung's foundry business is expected to post only a marginal gain.

TSMC reported third-quarter revenue of 1.49 trillion Taiwan dollars, up 51% from a year earlier and 17% higher than the previous quarter's 1.27 trillion Taiwan dollars, according to ZDNet Korea. Samsung Electronics' foundry business, by contrast, is expected to see only a slight revenue increase in the third quarter compared with both the same period last year and the previous quarter.

Analysts expect the global foundry market share gap between the two companies to widen further in the third quarter as a result.

The divergence comes amid an already uneven split in the contract chipmaking market. TrendForce data cited in the forecasts put TSMC's foundry market share at 72.5% in the second quarter, up 0.3 percentage points from the previous quarter, while Samsung Electronics' share fell to 5.9% from 6.5% in the first quarter, a decline of 0.6 percentage points.

IBK Investment & Securities forecast Samsung's non-memory business revenue for the third quarter at 6.697 trillion won, a slight rise from 6.385 trillion won a year earlier and 6.686 trillion won in the previous quarter. Samsung's non-memory semiconductor division, which includes foundry and System LSI, was analyzed to have recorded a loss of around 2 trillion won in the quarter.

In October 2025, Samsung Electronics reported consolidated provisional revenue of 195 trillion won and operating profit of 107.4 trillion won in the third quarter, the first time its operating profit surpassed 100 trillion won.
