Volkswagen Recalls 22,524 ID.4 EVs in the US Over Battery Fire Risk

NHTSA says the recall covers 2023-2026 model year ID.4 units with batteries from SK Battery America, following 22 incidents.

Volkswagen has decided to recall 22,524 units of the 2023-2026 model year ID.4 in the United States because of the risk of electric vehicle battery fires, according to NHTSA. The German automaker reached the decision in late September.

The batteries involved were supplied by SK Battery America, the US battery subsidiary of SK On.

The recall follows 22 related incidents in the United States between January 18, 2024 and August 7 of this year. Volkswagen has advised owners not to charge the battery above 80 percent.

In March, Volkswagen carried out a large-scale recall of 74,579 units of the ID. series produced between February 2022 and August 2024, as well as 19,452 units of the Cupra Born, over battery module defects.
