Microsoft releases WinUI Gallery 3.0 with experimental controls
The open-source gallery app moves to the Windows App SDK experimental channel and adds TableView, Charts and InkCanvas samples.
Microsoft released WinUI Gallery 3.0 on October 13, the first version of the open-source sample app built on the experimental channel of Windows App SDK, according to forest.watch.impress.co.jp. The version currently targeted is 2.5.4-experimental.
Pages for experimental controls carry an [Experimental] label warning that their APIs may change or be removed. Among the new additions are TableView, Charts, a combined WrapPanel/LayoutPanel, PagerControl, InkCanvas and InkToolbar, and new window-related APIs.
Navigation also changes: the mouse Back and Forward buttons can now move through the gallery, and every control page carries search tags, so pages can be found with terms such as context menu, carousel or WCAG.
Microsoft made more than 10 accessibility fixes, covering Narrator reading, keyboard operation, focus display and contrast ratio. The ListBox sample was removed, and users are directed to ListView instead.
WinUI Gallery is an MIT-licensed project hosted on GitHub and is available free from the Microsoft Store. In the past the app tracked the stable Windows App SDK, so controls appeared only after their specifications were largely settled, which left little room for feedback and no way to try controls still in development.
