Abnormal Studios Heads to Busan With Cambodian 'Wedding Dress' Remake

The remake of the 2010 South Korean drama marks the first feature from director Huang Han and is being sold ahead of its local release.

Abnormal Studios is presenting a slate at the Asian Contents & Film Market in Busan led by a Cambodian remake of the 2010 South Korean drama Wedding Dress, according to Variety. The Busan market runs alongside the Busan International Film Festival.

The Cambodian adaptation is the first feature from director Huang Han and is being sold ahead of its local release.

The slate also includes The Hungry One, an upcoming feature from Venezuelan horror director Alejandro Hidalgo that is in pre-production, and Ali & Ben's Spicy Meats, a cannibal black comedy-horror from Feisal and Iskander Azizuddin that Abnormal Studios is handling.

Completing the lineup is the Malaysian sci-fi fantasy Mimpi Kita: Castle in the Air, which took part in the It Project section of the NAFF Project Market at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival this year.

Background

Wedding Dress was a 2010 South Korean drama directed by Kwon Hyung-jin. Huang Han's earlier work has screened at the Berlin, Busan and Pingyao film festivals. Hidalgo directed No Voltees (2024) and The Exorcism of God (2021), which was distributed in more than 150 countries; his 2013 breakout The House at the End of Time is Venezuela's top-grossing horror film.

Abnormal Studios, a subsidiary of Westec Media Limited, has been acquiring and releasing films since 2020 and has handled more than 400 titles to date. It now puts out around 100 films a year across Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, Mongolia and Nepal.
