Hong Kong's 'The Mage' Heads to Busan Market With Abnormal Studios
Abnormal Studios is presenting the Hong Kong action film to international buyers at the Asian Contents & Film Market, Variety reports.
HONG KONG — Abnormal Studios is introducing the Hong Kong film The Mage to international buyers at the Busan International Film Festival's Asian Contents & Film Market, according to Variety. The company will meet buyers at the market and connect them with 852 Films.
The film, directed by Danny Pang and Oxide Pang and starring Josie Ho, opened in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Taiwan on Oct. 8. Edko Films acquired Hong Kong and Macau rights, while CJ ENM Hong Kong acquired rights for Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
The Busan market presentation follows a run of festival appearances for The Mage this year. The film held its world premiere in July at South Korea's Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), where Ho received the Fantastic Icon Award at the festival's 30th edition. It also opened the Midnight section of the Bangkok International Film Festival.
Further releases are scheduled across Asia. The Mage is set to open in Singapore on Oct. 15 and Thailand on Oct. 29, with Indonesia, the Philippines and Vietnam due in November. A European premiere is planned in the Sitges Collection strand at Spain's Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival.
