Comisma, Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank sign anime fund basic agreement

The two companies will jointly set up and run a fund targeting anime production projects; structure is still under discussion.

Comisma and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank announced on October 28, 2026 that they have signed a basic agreement toward forming a fund that would invest mainly in anime production projects, according to gamebusiness.jp. The two companies will handle the fund's formation and operation jointly, with the detailed structure to be discussed going forward.

The fund is intended to strengthen returns to creators by supplying risk capital, and to offer new investment opportunities to investors who have found it difficult to put money into anime production. The targeted investor base includes businesses and overseas and individual investors interested in the anime industry.

The framework combines Comisma's IP creation and procurement capabilities and its anime production capacity — including those of its subsidiaries — with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank's fund arrangement function and investor network. Comisma's president said the initiative is important for business creation by Japanese startups.

Comisma's IP and studio base

Comisma runs the manga app GANMA! and has produced more than 440 of its own IP works from it, creating over 100 new manga titles a year in recent years. Its wholly owned anime studio Qzil.la produced the theatrical anime SEKIRO: NO DEFEAT, released on September 4, 2026, and has worked on openings and endings for the sixth season of Kingdom and the ending for episode 11 of the first season of Chainsaw Man.

Its manga Loving Yamada at Lv999 has passed 6.5 million copies in Japan across print and digital, and has been adapted into a TV anime and a live-action film and published overseas in 17 languages. Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Group positioned its asset management business as a core growth area in the medium-term management plan for fiscal 2026 to 2028 announced in May 2026.
