Dark Horse has announced that the first volume of Gou Tanabe's manga adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward will be released on March 30, 2027, according to screenrant.com. The book, H.P. Lovecraft's The Case of Charles Dexter Ward Vol. 1 TP, will run 178 pages and cost $14.99.
Tanabe both writes and illustrates the adaptation. Dark Horse described Vol. 1 as the first installment in an ongoing multi-volume series, so the story will continue across later books.
The source novella follows Charles Dexter Ward and his ancestor Joseph Curwen, with Dr. Willett, the family physician, also figuring in the narrative.
A long-running project
Lovecraft wrote The Case of Charles Dexter Ward in 1927, but the story was not published until 1941, four years after his death in 1937. Tanabe has built an ongoing series of Lovecraft manga adaptations, which also includes The Outsider and Other Early Adaptations.
