Gundam X Team Recalls Rejected Garrod Ran Design at 30th Screening
Director Shinji Takamatsu and designer Masayoshi Nishimura discussed After War Gundam X at an anniversary screening, revealing a rejected lead design.
At a 30th anniversary screening of After War Gundam X, director Shinji Takamatsu and character designer Masayoshi Nishimura discussed the series' evolution and its lead protagonist, Garrod Ran, according to cbr.com.
Nishimura said the original design for Garrod Ran was rejected because it looked too similar to traditional shonen manga protagonists. The final version of the character moved away from that template.
Takamatsu said he wanted to tell a story about boys and girls meeting and living resiliently in a desolate post-war world, which shaped the tone of the series and its cast.
Mechanical designer Junya Ishigaki also spoke about the Crouda Lancerow Custom, explaining that the unit was designed as a heavily armored mobile suit with a weak point in its stomach.
