LEGO Confirms Daft Punk Set, Archives Interstella Guitarship Idea
The fan-proposed Guitarship project had passed 1,000 supporters before LEGO archived it, citing overlap with the upcoming Daft Punk set.
LEGO has confirmed that an official Daft Punk set is in development, and has archived a fan-proposed LEGO Ideas project based on Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, according to cbr.com.
The archived build, called the Guitarship, had 686 pieces and five minifigures: Shep and The Crescendolls members Octave, Arpegius, Stella and Baryl. It had passed 1,000 supporters, which gave it another 182 days to reach 5,000.
LEGO archived the project because its concept overlaps with the official Daft Punk set, which will recreate the pyramid stage from the Alive 2007 tour rather than Interstella 5555.
On October 22, LEGO announced its partnership with Daft Punk and released a video titled "Daft Punk has entered the LEGO universe" (background).
Interstella 5555, directed by Kazuhisa Takenouchi and supervised by Leiji Matsumoto, was released in 2003. It grossed approximately $6.7 million at the box office against a reported budget of $4 million, and holds an 80% Fresh rating and a 95% audience Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes (background).
