Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game adds ranked and spectator modes in biggest update yet

The fourth content update also redraws Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra ahead of the game's Switch 2 launch on October 29.

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game has received its fourth content update, which developer Gameplay Ground International describes as its biggest overhaul yet. The patch adds a ranked mode, a competitive ladder and a spectator mode, according to Polygon.

Avatar State Aang and Nightmare Korra were redrawn in the update and given new attacks and techniques. The rest of the roster was rebalanced, though less extensively than the two protagonists. Two stages that were previously exclusive to the story, Avatar Road and Air Temple, are now playable in multiplayer.

The update also expands Arcade mode, adds extra difficulty settings and lets players pick the music track that plays during a fight. Menus and the in-match HUD were retouched for what the developer calls a bolder presentation, and beginner-friendly lobbies, new tutorials and combo trials are promised.

The game launches on Switch 2 on October 29 with cross-play support. Owners of the Switch version will receive a free upgrade.

Launch complaints

The game was released in July 2026 without some key components promised in its marketing, and players complained at launch about the absence of a ranked mode, which made it hard for newcomers to compete against experienced opponents.
