Gearbox Says Borderlands Passes 100 Million Sales as More Borderlands 4 Content Comes Next Year
The studio also confirmed it has finished the Borderlands 4 Year One roadmap, which added two playable characters and two Story Packs.
Gearbox Software announced on November 2, 2026 that the Borderlands franchise has sold more than 100 million units across all of its games. The studio also said it is working on more Borderlands 4 content for next year, according to Eurogamer.
Gearbox confirmed that the Borderlands 4 Year One roadmap is now complete. That roadmap included two new playable characters and two Story Packs. Weekly Activity refreshes and Community Challenges will continue, the studio said.
The developer added that it is taking a broader look at the franchise's future direction, without giving details on what that will involve.
The first Borderlands launched in 2009. Borderlands 4 had a softer than expected launch, partly due to PC performance issues, and a promised Switch 2 port was indefinitely delayed earlier in the year. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said the team were focusing on getting Borderlands 4 into shape before bringing it elsewhere.
