The Game Bakers launches Cairn DLC On the Trail: Deep Water

The French studio's new expansion for its physics-based climbing game is available now, Polygon reports.

The Game Bakers has released On the Trail: Deep Water, a new DLC for its climbing game Cairn, and it is available now, according to Polygon.

Cairn is an action-adventure game about a climber named Aava attempting to scale Mount Kami. It was designed around an intuitive, physics-based climbing controller rather than as a climbing simulation, and it includes a robot called a climbot that carries pitons and belays the player.

The DLC arrives from the French studio behind Haven. Audrey Leprince, a co-founder of The Game Bakers, is a producer on Cairn, and Emeric Thoa is its creative director.

Built on a physics-first controller

Thoa developed the vision for Cairn's simple climbing controller after the studio finished Haven, and the team prototyped the climbing mechanics for a long time before confirming the concept was deep and fun enough for a full game.

To build the physics system, The Game Bakers hired engineers with strong math backgrounds — a profile the team had not had before.
