Xbox says Call of Duty lifetime revenue passes $40 billion
Asha Sharma confirmed the milestone while Activision declined to share launch sales data for Modern Warfare 4, which is off to a slower start on Steam.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the Call of Duty franchise has passed $40 billion in lifetime revenue, according to Kotaku. The figure covers the series' total earnings since its debut.
The milestone came as Activision stayed quiet on sales for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's launch weekend, sharing no hard sales data or new records. The company made no comparable announcement for the release.
Modern Warfare 4 has the best Metacritic score of any Call of Duty game in 15 years, but it is posting weaker concurrent player numbers than Black Ops 6 on Steam. The game is also not available day-one on Game Pass this year.
Microsoft's next earnings call is scheduled for October 28, where the company could address the franchise's performance.
Older launches set a high bar
Activision has previously promoted Call of Duty launches with specific figures. It announced Black Ops 3's opening weekend as the biggest entertainment launch of the year with $550 million in sales; the game is reportedly the series' best seller at 43 million copies. It also said 2019's Modern Warfare, the second best-selling entry at 41 million copies, more than doubled the box office opening of Joker in its launch weekend. In 2025, Activision discussed Black Ops 7's launch in a similarly reserved way.
