Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Japanese Version Alters Mission 3 Content
The Japanese release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 removes the hanging sequence option and dismemberment settings, according to Game*Spark.
The Japanese version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been found to contain several content restrictions in its campaign, according to Game*Spark. In Mission 3, titled "Obey Only," the option to hang a rebel has been removed. Selecting the nearby soldier's "support" command instead skips the hanging gameplay and jumps directly to the post-hanging cutscene.
In the same mission, the Japanese version does not allow players to kill civilians, and doing so immediately fails the mission. The overseas version's "dismemberment and blood" option is also absent from the settings menu in the Japanese release.
According to a writer who played it, the Japanese PC version on Steam is similarly regulated.
The game is scheduled for release on October 23, 2026.
Long-standing series practice
The civilian-killing restriction is not new to the series in Japan. In the 2009 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, the mission "No Russian" had a restriction preventing civilian killing in Japan. In 2020, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered was also restricted on PC in Japan.
