Japanese indie game developer reports death and bomb threats, plans police report
The developer behind the in-development game Chikai no Fuchi says threats were sent after a controversial video, and will consult a lawyer before filing a police report.
The developer known as Jōkyū Kishi naru Nii, who is working on the game Chikai no Fuchi, reported on October 26 that he has received death threats and a threat to bomb his home, according to Automaton Media. He said on his X account that he will consult with a lawyer and file a report with the police.
The threats follow a video he published on October 23 explaining the development history and future plans for Chikai no Fuchi. In that video, he said that negotiations with a game company for development cooperation are in the final stage of deliberation. He also reported that Chika Nagai will supervise the game's scenario.
Regarding refunds, he explained that he would put 50,000 yen of his own money into the company each month to cover refunds for backers who requested them. In the video, he also said that people requesting refunds are likely to be the "good-natured type," a remark that drew strong criticism.
The project has been associated with the crowdfunding platform CAMPFIRE, and the entities listed in connection with the game include Goblow. Nagai has worked on titles such as Kamaitachi no Yoru x3 and 428: Shibuya Scramble.
