Forza director Dan Greenawalt leaves Microsoft after 27 years

Dan Greenawalt, founder of Turn 10 Studios, has departed Microsoft as the studio merges with Playground Games, according to an internal memo.

Dan Greenawalt, director, founder and vice president at Turn 10 Studios, has left Microsoft after 27 years with the company. The departure comes as Turn 10 is being merged with Playground Games as part of Xbox restructuring.

An internal memo from Playground Games studio head Trevor Williams said Greenawalt decided it was the right time to retire from Microsoft, according to Eurogamer. The memo did not give a specific departure date.

The merged teams will collaborate on the Forza and Fable franchises. Turn 10 is known for the Forza Motorsport series, while Playground Games has worked on the Forza Horizon titles and Fable.

Greenawalt shipped Project Gotham Racing on the original Xbox in 2001 and later founded Turn 10 Studios and led the creation of Forza. Playground Games' last release before the merger was the 2023 Forza Motorsport reboot.

Earlier this year, Xbox's restructuring resulted in 3200 layoffs and four studio closures.
