Dwarf Fortress dev outlines planned underground meat biome

Tarn Adams described muscle, bone and sinew terrain in a Bay 12 forum thread, with no date set for the biome's arrival.

Tarn Adams has described a planned meat biome for Dwarf Fortress in a "Future of the Fortress" thread on the Bay 12 forums. The developer outlined terrain built from muscle, bone, vertebral walls, sinew and sphincters, and said the biome will likely sit underground.

Adams said there will be no meat trees, but meat can be mined for resources. He also noted that regular meat probably cannot be animated under the game's current systems, making a zombified meat biome unlikely.

No date was given for when the meat biome might arrive. Bay 12's current plans for Dwarf Fortress also include a crystal biome.

The "Future of the Fortress" thread also hosts discussion of forthcoming changes to the game's magic system, including how arcane knowledge is categorised, transmitted, preserved and lost in procedurally generated worlds.

Dwarf Fortress is known for its florid descriptions of fatal injuries, a style the proposed terrain would extend to the map itself.
