Bethesda Moves Fallout 5 Into Preproduction

The official announcement confirms the next mainline Fallout is in preproduction, and Reddit fans are already listing the features they want.

Bethesda has confirmed that Fallout 5 is now in preproduction, the studio's long-promised next mainline entry in the post-apocalyptic series. The project has been officially announced and has moved into its early production phase at the studio.

According to screenrant.com, the update has set off a wide-ranging discussion on Reddit, where players are setting out what they want from the next game. The requests are specific: better combat physics, a larger map with more wilderness, and fewer repetitive raider and super mutant camps.

Fans also asked for settlements with more character, less repetitive companion dialogue and longer questlines. A deeper companion system came up repeatedly, along with a request from one player for a streamer-friendly setting that can disable copyrighted music.

Fallout 5 sits alongside several other Bethesda projects. The Elder Scrolls 6 is also in the works, while Fallout 76 continues to run alongside other Fallout releases.

Xbox has been refocusing on its biggest franchises this year, a push that includes moving Halo to Activision and advancing multiple Bethesda projects such as Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6. Remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are also in the works, and a Fallout TV series is preparing to deliver its third season.
