FFTARecomp 2.0 Adds Linux and Steam Deck Support
The unofficial native port of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance now recompiles from the user's own ROM and adds a redesigned menu, zoom and XInput gamepad support.
The FFTARecomp project has released version 2.0 of its unofficial native port of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, according to wccftech.com. The update adds a completely redesigned menu, zoom in and out, a native Linux version and Steam Deck support.
FFTARecomp turns the USA version of the Game Boy Advance strategy RPG into a native program for Windows, Linux and Steam Deck. The game is recompiled from the user's own ROM rather than running in an emulator, so no BIOS is required.
Version 2.0 also adds gamepad support via generic XInput, an installer scroll option on small screens so users can reach the rest of the installer, and a new Normal audio mode in which the game fast-forwards while audio keeps playing at normal speed. The release fixes many bugs related to very wide aspect ratios.
Developer Shares Screenshots
The developer shared screenshots of zoomed-out locations on the Recomps subreddit. The project's description is hosted on GitHub.
The 1.0 release of FFTARecomp focused on bringing the game to PC with additional features such as a fast-forward option and widescreen support. Publisher Square Enix has kept silent about the possibility of a new entry in the series or remasters of the two remaining games released on Game Boy Advance and Nintendo DS. In 2025, Square Enix released Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a remaster of the first Final Fantasy Tactics entry.
