Final Fantasy Resonance Tops 42,000 Steam Players, Series Record

Square Enix's pixel reimagining of Final Fantasy Brave Exvius drew the highest concurrent-player count yet for a single-player Final Fantasy game on Steam.

Final Fantasy Resonance surpassed 42,000 concurrent players on Steam, the highest figure recorded for a single-player Final Fantasy title, according to gamespark.jp. The game launched on PC via Steam on October 23, 2026, a day after its October 22 release.

On Steam, the game holds a 97% positive user review rating, which the platform classifies as "Overwhelmingly Positive," and it entered the top 10 of Steam's top sellers from its debut.

Producer Keisuke Nakajima and scenario writer Yukinori Kitajima, who has written scenarios since the Final Fantasy Brave Exvius era, sent messages thanking players for reaching the milestone.

Resonance was built as an HD-2D reimagining of the smartphone title Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, under the concept of what Final Fantasy might look like had it kept evolving in pixel form. It is available on PC through Steam and the Microsoft Store, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch, with a demo that covers all of Chapter 1.

The console and PC versions arrived at essentially the same time, unlike Final Fantasy VII Rebirth and Final Fantasy XVI, which had gaps between their console and PC releases. Final Fantasy XIV, a live-service title, still holds the series' overall concurrent-player record.
