GTA 6 Adds Criminal Profile System That Shapes the Story

Rockstar told Edge Magazine that Jason and Lucia's behavior is tracked from "Professional" to "Irredeemable" with angel and devil icons.

Rockstar Games has confirmed that Grand Theft Auto 6 includes a Criminal Profile system that tracks the behavior of protagonists Jason and Lucia and influences how the story unfolds, according to an interview with Edge Magazine reported by gamerant.com.

The profile is measured on a scale running from "Professional" to "Irredeemable," shown in the game with angel and devil icons. Decisions made during the campaign feed into that rating, and Rockstar said the resulting profile affects the direction the narrative takes.

Combat is not built around killing alone. Jason and Lucia can incapacitate opponents, issue threats or intimidate people to get through confrontations, and choosing to shoot through an encounter instead pushes the Criminal Profile toward a more violent rating.

Similarities to an earlier Rockstar system

The setup echoes Red Dead Redemption 2, which launched with an Honor system that tracked Arthur Morgan's actions and changed how characters responded to him as well as the game's ending. Rockstar has previously said Grand Theft Auto 6 improves NPC behavior, police responses and freedom in how missions can be completed.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
