Rockstar raised GTA 6 NPC standards beyond GTA 5, Nelson says

Rockstar North boss Rob Nelson told Edge that GTA 5's timings made the new game feel too fast, and that NPCs now react to weapons being drawn.

Rockstar North boss Rob Nelson said the higher world resolution of Grand Theft Auto 6 meant some behaviors that worked in Grand Theft Auto 5 no longer hold up, in an interview with Edge magazine reported by gamesradar.com.

Nelson said that running GTA 6 on GTA 5's timings made everything feel too fast. He also pointed to NPC reactions as an area that needed rework, noting that characters in GTA 5 barely responded when a weapon was produced in front of them, something he felt was already showing its age.

GTA 6 builds on the greet and antagonize interaction system introduced in Red Dead Redemption 2, extending NPC responses beyond what the earlier crime sandbox allowed.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19. Grand Theft Auto 5 launched 13 years before this article.
