Rockstar's Rob Nelson says GTA 6 won't funnel players through map icons
The Rockstar North co-studio head told IGN the studio isn't directing players to all content via objectives or blips, and confirmed working buses and trains.
Rockstar North co-studio head and head of development Rob Nelson said Grand Theft Auto 6 does not push players toward all of its content through objectives, blips or map icons, in an interview with IGN. The comments were reported by gamerant.com.
Nelson also said the game features working buses and trains, giving players transport that runs independently of their own vehicles.
He discussed open-world freedom in Edge's November 2026 cover story, where the design of the game's world was addressed alongside the IGN interview.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has been cited as the best point of reference for Grand Theft Auto 6's emergent open-world gameplay, with the older title's approach offered as the closest comparison to how the new game's world is intended to work.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled for release on November 19, 2026.
