IO Interactive: Hitman Elusive Targets Are Hand-Built, Not Scanned

Senior level designer Marin Ansdal says each Elusive Target starts with a hand-drawn concept before a character artist models and textures it.

IO Interactive has detailed how it builds Elusive Targets for Hitman World of Assassination without scanning or motion capture, as the new mission The Host, starring YouTuber JackSepticEye, arrives in the game. The studio's approach was outlined to techradar.com.

Senior level designer Marin Ansdal said every Elusive Target begins with a hand-drawn concept and is then modelled and textured by a character artist, rather than being produced through scanning or motion capture.

Junior concept and character artist Lovisa Österman said she spends hours studying videos and photos of the talent involved before modelling starts. She said accurate textures, including freckles, spots and flaws, are essential to a recognizable likeness.

The Host

The new Elusive Target mission casts JackSepticEye in the title role, following the same hand-crafted process the studio describes for the format.
