Katana Zero DLC Grows to Full-Sequel Size, Developer Says
Justin Stander says the expansion now matches a full sequel in scope and packs more than 30 new songs, but no release date has been set.
Justin Stander, lead developer of Katana Zero, said the game's long-awaited DLC has grown to the size of a full sequel and will include a soundtrack with more than 30 new songs. He said he is still working hard on the project and that more updates will follow. No release date has been announced.
The expansion has scaled up repeatedly during development. In 2020, Stander said the DLC had grown to three times its original size, and by last year he described it as nearly as big as the base game. A short trailer for the DLC was released last year.
The Katana Zero DLC has been in development for about seven years. GamesRadar reported Stander's latest comments on its current scope.
Scope creep, by design
Stander's comparison to a full sequel follows a pattern familiar to fans of slow-burn indie expansions, including Hollow Knight Silksong, whose planned expansion grew into a standalone sequel. For now, Katana Zero players waiting on the DLC have a soundtrack of more than 30 tracks to look forward to, alongside a project Stander says is still being actively worked on.
