Playden project runs Steam games on jailbroken PS5 consoles
A GitHub launcher called Playden lets jailbroken PlayStation 5 owners sign in to Steam and install games from their library, running them through a PS5 port of Wine.
A GitHub project called Playden for PS5 lets jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles sign in to a Steam account and launch games from the user's library, according to tomshardware.com. The launcher is an adaptation of the Playden launcher made for macOS, reworked for the PlayStation console.
Games run through prospero-win, a PS5 port of Wine, inside a private Windows environment. The launcher creates a separate PS5 app tile for each installed Steam game, isolating that game's files, settings and crashes.
The project is in an Alpha stage. One user, v7dt1, reported that a launched game eventually crashed, while Reddit user Cevap said Portal played with no issues apart from a missing mouse cursor and an ESC key that did not open the options menu.
Listed titles and caveats
The developer lists compatible games including American Truck Simulator, Cyberpunk 2077, Doom Eternal, GTA: Vice City, Left 4 Dead 2 and Team Fortress 2. Users need a jailbroken PlayStation 5 to run the launcher at all.
The creator warns that Playden is an unofficial Steam client that Valve does not officially support, and that any risks are the user's to accept. In October 2025, Sony said it would cease physical game disc production by January 2028; a petition against that move nearly reached 200,000 signatures within a week of the announcement.
