Level-5's Hino Details Layton Puzzle Design Ahead of December 10 Release
The Level-5 president says QuizKnock is handling puzzles for Professor Layton and the New World of Steam, which launches on December 10, 2026.
Akihiro Hino, president and CEO of Level-5, has discussed the family-focused puzzle design and features of Professor Layton and the New World of Steam ahead of the game's release on December 10, 2026, according to gamebusiness.jp. The game was also playable in demo form at Tokyo Game Show 2026.
Puzzle development for the title is handled by QuizKnock. Hino described a mechanic in which solving puzzles changes the town, and a "Daily Puzzle Communication" feature that will deliver puzzles over a period of more than a year.
The story is set in America and follows the events of Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel. Characters from earlier entries in the series will appear in the new title.
A remake alongside the new entry
Level-5 has also announced a remake of Professor Layton and the Curious Village. The series has been known for its full-scale puzzles and story-driven structure.
A Layton-led story has not been released since Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy 13 years ago.
