Mario Kart World datamine uncovers code for unplayable drivers

Dataminers found references to Spiny, Thwomp, Blooper, Ninji, Goomba Twins, Chain Chomp and Fuzzy in the game's files, according to Game Rant.

Dataminers have found code in Mario Kart World's files that refers to drivers who are not currently playable in the game, according to Game Rant. The references point to characters including Spiny, Thwomp, Blooper, Ninji, Goomba Twins, Chain Chomp and Fuzzy.

Dataminer Benial found Spiny listed under its internal code name, which matches the character's original Japanese name, Togezo. Dataminer MondoMega found the references to the other drivers, each listed with an assigned weight class.

The files also contain two development names, Bird and Banana, whose meaning is unclear. Nintendo has given no indication that paid DLC or new character additions are planned for Mario Kart World.

Mario Kart World launched on June 5, 2025, with 50 individual characters and a variety of costumes. Nintendo's previous entry in the series, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, launched in 2017 and received its Booster Course Pass five years later; by the end of 2023, that game had gained eight additional racers through DLC.
