Marvel's Wolverine: 35% of Sales Were Disc Copies, Ampere Says
Ampere Analysis estimates around 35 percent of Marvel's Wolverine sales were physical, as Sony pushes toward an all-digital future.
Ampere Analysis estimates that roughly 35 percent of Marvel's Wolverine sales were disc versions of the game, according to estimates shared with The Game Business. The figure covers one of PlayStation's top-selling titles and points to a still-significant physical market for major first-party releases on PS5.
The research firm also estimated physical shares for two other titles in September 2025: The Blood of Dawnwalker at 36 percent and Silent Hill Townfall at 45 percent. Physical sales were particularly strong in parts of Europe, Ampere said.
Those estimates arrive as Marvel's Wolverine is on track to be one of the last first-party PlayStation games released on disc. Sony has made a contentious decision to herald an all-digital gaming future, a shift that has drawn debate among players who prefer physical copies.
Disc demand persists in some markets
In August, physical gaming spending in the U.S. was up month-over-month due to an explosion in game-key card sales for Switch 2, for releases such as Elden Ring. That surge suggests physical formats still hold appeal for certain platforms and regions, even as major publishers move toward digital distribution.
