Mass Effect voice actors mourn BioWare shutdown
Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer addressed fans in an October 21 Instagram Live, calling the studio's reported closure a loss for Edmonton and the industry.
Mass Effect voice actors Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer spoke about the reported shutdown of BioWare during an Instagram Live stream on October 21, addressing fans of the series directly.
Hale, who voiced the female Commander Shepard, said it is hard to think about BioWare being shut down, and attributed the studio's fate to ownership that may not have understood what BioWare fully is. In the same stream, she recalled that EA had at some point been sold to The Saudi Public Investment Fund and Jared Kushner.
Meer, the voice of the male Commander Shepard, called the news a massive loss for Edmonton, for Canada and for the video game industry.
The pair also looked ahead to the fan calendar. Meer said N7 Day will still be celebrated this year, and noted that next year marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Mass Effect 1.
PC Gamer reported the remarks from the stream. The original Mass Effect launched in 2007, and the outlet noted that EA has not released anything in the Ultima series in over 20 years.
