ME3Tweaks releases Mass Effect 3 multiplayer mod for Legendary Edition

ME3Tweaks has released its Legendary Edition Multiplayer mod, reconstructing and expanding Mass Effect 3's co-op multiplayer inside Mass Effect Legendary Edition, according to rockpapershotgun.com. The team built the mod in secret since 2023.

The mod adds an overhauled UI, rebaked level lighting, upscaled and redrawn textures, upgraded shaders, HDR and controller support, networking and server replication improvements, and bug fixes. It also introduces new wave modes, including Unified and Coalition. Unified mode mixes enemy waves from the Geth, Reaper and Cerberus factions.

Matchmaking runs through ME3Tweaks' own servers, and a private server option is also available.

Modder Audemus said the team's sense of responsibility to carry the franchise's torch is stronger now that Mass Effect's future is in question. Modder Mgamerz described numbness over BioWare's closure and 14 years spent working on its games.

Background

In 2021, Mass Effect Legendary Edition remastered the main trilogy but did not include the ME3 multiplayer component. The LEMP mod had already recreated ME3's co-op in Legendary Edition using AI vibecoding, and ME3Tweaks previously added Mass Effect 1's Pinnacle Station DLC to Legendary Edition.

BioWare was closed and EA cancelled Mass Effect 5. Mac Walters, a Mass Effect writer and director, left BioWare voluntarily in 2023.
