Nintendo opens Ask the Developer on Switch 2 Ocarina of Time

Chapters 1 and 2 cover the Nintendo 64 carry-overs, the policy of preserving the original experience, and the art direction.

Nintendo published Chapters 1 and 2 of its “Ask the Developer” interview for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on November 2, 2026, according to gamespark.jp. The installment is the 24th in the series.

The first two chapters cover elements carried over from the Nintendo 64 version, a development policy centered on preserving the original experience, and the art direction. The full interview is available on Nintendo's official “Ask the Developer: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time” page.

Chapters 3 and 4 are scheduled to go live on November 3, 2026.

From the 1998 original to the Switch 2

The original The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released on the NINTENDO 64 in 1998. Series producer Eiji Aonuma has described it as Nintendo's first large-scale title built as a story-rich, dynamic 3D game and as the starting point of his own game design.

Hidemaro Fujibayashi, co-producer on the new version, played the original on its release day while working at another company and was impressed by its dark-toned package and its Z-targeting camera system. During development of the new version, Aonuma proposed adding warp points for shortcuts, but all of them were removed after testing showed they harmed the game's structure of noticing new experiences along the way; the new version keeps an area-by-area map structure rather than a seamless open world.

The Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is due on November 5, 2026.
