Order of the Sinking Star First-Week Steam Sales 45% Higher Than The Witness

Jonathan Blow, game designer and head of developer Thekla, revealed on October 16, 2026 that first-week Steam sales of Order of the Sinking Star were 45% higher than those of his previous game, The Witness, according to Automaton.

Blow also noted that Order of the Sinking Star is priced 25% lower than The Witness, at 29.99 dollars versus 39.99 dollars. He said he believes the game is matching or will ultimately exceed the revenue success of The Witness.

Thekla's Order of the Sinking Star launched on PC via Steam on October 9, 2026, published by Arc Games. Bundles pairing the game with Permafrost and Animal Well are also available.

Console versions planned within the year

PS5 and Nintendo Switch 2 versions of Order of the Sinking Star are planned for release within the year, with Playism handling the Japanese release.

Blow led Thekla and worked on the game for about 10 years starting in 2016. He developed the Jai programming language as an alternative to C++, and the game engine built with it is used in this game. The project began as an experimental effort in game design and Jai before growing into a large-scale 10-year project. In January 2016, one week after The Witness launched, Blow published its sales figures, which exceeded 100,000 copies across all platforms with revenue of 5 million dollars.
