Owlboy gets 10th-anniversary update with auto-aim on November 1

D-Pad Studio will release a 10th-anniversary update for Owlboy on November 1 overseas time, according to automaton-media.com. The update adds an auto-aim setting and a new movement option for the game's protagonist.

The auto-aim setting applies to the shooting of Otus's best friend, who carries a gun, so players no longer need to use both analog sticks at once. On PC, actions such as shooting, attacking and grabbing can be assigned to the X, Y and Z keys, allowing keyboard-only play.

Otus also gains a super dash, activated by holding the button instead of repeatedly tapping the roll. The update further adds toggles for screen shake and flash effects.

Other planned changes include new ways to deal with certain enemies and bosses, new interactions with a grabbed character, increased fruit HP recovery, cutscene skipping and reduced waiting time during scene transitions.

Livestream and PC sale planned

A developer livestream will run alongside the update, showing the never-before-released beta version and answering fan questions. A large discount sale for the PC version starts the same day. D-Pad Studio posted various teasers on October 27 ahead of the anniversary.

Owlboy was in development for nine years and released for PC on November 1, 2016 (November 2 in Japan). It was later ported to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One, and its previous update was released in 2022.
