Phantom Blade Zero gets day-one PC mods for respawns and boss resets

Mods on Nexus Mods arrived a little over 24 hours after launch, including a Devil May Cry-style ranking system.

PC players of Phantom Blade Zero can already install mods that add FromSoftware-style enemy respawns, boss phase resets and a Devil May Cry-style ranking system, a little over 24 hours after the game launched. The mods are hosted on Nexus Mods.

The Bellbound: Enemies Respawn mod makes ordinary enemies respawn when a bell is used, when fast travel is used, or when the player dies and revives. Its current version also forces a 23% Phantom Dust loss on defeat, a value that can be adjusted in the mod's configuration file. Version 1.4 of the mod stops enemies near checkpoint bells from respawning.

The Boss Phase Reset mod restarts a boss fight from phase one if the player dies in a later phase. It works by loading an autosave stored at the start of the boss fight.

A third mod, Style Rank, adds a D-to-SSS style ranking similar to the system in Devil May Cry.

Director previously ruled out those mechanics

After Phantom Blade Zero was announced, director Soulframe Liang said the game is not a soulslike because it lacks mechanics such as enemies respawning at checkpoints and bosses reverting to phase one on defeat. The mods, developed for the PC and PlayStation 5 action RPG from S-Game, add both of those behaviours to the PC version.
