StudioWink Shows Re:Connect, AI Circuit Puzzle Game for Steam and Switch

The cyber puzzle action game casts players as a debug AI repairing malfunctioning devices, with a demo running to a boss fight against maid-type care AI Mei.

StudioWink exhibited Re:Connect, a cyber puzzle action game in which players repair the heart bugs of AI characters, according to 4gamer.net. The title is planned for release on Steam, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow.

Players control a cute debug AI who travels with the navigation AI Navi to fix bugs in the world. They hack malfunctioning electronic devices, enter them and solve electronic circuit puzzles to restore the devices to normal. The puzzles involve connecting code and pressing switches, and call for programming-like thinking, with some also demanding timing as well as logic.

Boss battles use the same mechanics: bosses attack in distinctive ways, and players fight them with the puzzle skills learned earlier. The demo version could be played up to the battle with Mei, a maid-type care AI. Other AI characters appear as well, including one that directs traffic and one that draws pictures.

Visual programming roots

The developer, credited as Maapyon, said this is their first personal game work and that they handle level design and programming alone apart from graphics and sound. The game's systems were inspired by visual programming, which makes logic visible, the developer said.

Full-scale development has taken about four years so far, and at one point all the program data was lost, according to the developer.
