Resident Evil producer Jun Takeuchi explained the meaning behind the title Resident Evil Requiem during the Biohazard 30th Anniversary Special, and said the series' remake and numbered titles are building toward a crossover.
Takeuchi said the spelling REQUIEM contains "RE (response)" and a "Q (question)," presenting both an answer and a question. He did not elaborate on the form or timing of the crossover.
According to Takeuchi, preparations for the crossover have been underway since Resident Evil Village, and the remake series will eventually catch up to the era of the numbered titles. Resident Evil Requiem places Leon S. Kennedy in a co-leading role alongside Grace Ashcroft.
Resident Evil Requiem was released earlier this year. The only officially confirmed Resident Evil game in development is Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, which has no release date.
