Roblox to let creators ship games as standalone apps in 2026

Roblox also outlined browser play, offline mode and a new Build tab at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026 in Bangkok.

Roblox plans to let creators release their games as standalone apps on mobile, PC and consoles, starting in stages within 2026 and expanding next year, the company said at gamescom asia x Thailand Game Show 2026 in Bangkok. Roblox international vice president Zhen Fang gave a talk at the event titled "The Next Generation Won't Just Play Games", according to 4gamer.net.

Roblox also said browser play will arrive within the year, letting users join games from Chrome through shared links without installing the app. Offline play is planned to begin with early access ahead of a launch in mid-2027, with developers choosing whether to support it. A cross-game friends chat tab is being added so conversations continue when players switch games, and 2D game support is on the way.

Build tab and creator tools

A new Build tab in the Roblox app lets users create games with natural-language instructions without Roblox Studio, on a smartphone alone. Build is in alpha in New Zealand, Singapore, Serbia and Thailand, with over 500,000 users and more than 70,000 games published. Roblox also introduced a Scene Generator that creates a working game layout from text instructions and reference images, to be finished in Roblox Studio.

Roblox is rolling out the Moments tab, which shows gameplay videos with a play button, starting in some countries including the US. Roblox Wallet and Roblox Card will be introduced between this year and next year: Wallet will pay out cleared earnings on business days, starting for US creators within the year and expanding to other countries from 2027, while Card, launching in 2027, will let creators spend Wallet balances anywhere cards are accepted.

The company announced that Joel Neo has become managing director for Southeast Asia and Oceania, based in Singapore. Roblox said it held 17 events in 12 countries this year, six of them in Asia, including roadshows in Thailand in April, Vietnam in May and Indonesia in August, and that a several-hundred-person event is planned in Bangkok the day after the talk.
