Game creator Masahiro Sakurai announced on X that he appears in Bungeishunju magazine's "Showa 100 Years: 50 Beautiful Japanese People" feature. The November issue of Bungeishunju carrying the feature is currently on sale.

The magazine presents Sakurai under the heading "A genius of game-making who gives away his personal fortune," according to gamespark.jp. The piece was written by Yasuhiro Nagata, a former editor at Famitsu.

Sakurai created the Kirby series and launched the Super Smash Bros. series. He also worked on the Nintendo DS puzzle game Meteos and the 3DS action game Kid Icarus: Uprising.

He wrote the Famitsu column "Masahiro Sakurai on Thinking About Games" for about 18 years, and he later opened the YouTube channel "Masahiro Sakurai on Creating Games." In the channel's final episode he said the several hundred videos cost about 90 million yen, funded entirely by himself without monetization.

The "50 Beautiful Japanese People" feature first appeared in print in 1995. Past editions have featured figures including Eiichi Shibusawa, Rentaro Taki and Jiro Shirasu.
