Mass Effect petition passes 180,000 signatures after BioWare closure

The #SaveMassEffect campaign asks EA either to continue developing the series or to license the IP to another studio.

A change.org petition calling on EA to keep the Mass Effect series alive has passed 180,000 verified signatures, according to PC Gamer. The campaign, tagged #SaveMassEffect, was started by Joe Smith.

The petition asks EA to commit to continued development of Mass Effect or to license the Mass Effect intellectual property to another studio. It does not ask EA to reverse its decision to shut down BioWare.

Fans are posting memories of the Mass Effect games alongside their signatures. Signers quoted by PC Gamer included Savannah and Austin, who described what the trilogy meant to them.

The petition follows EA's shutdown of BioWare last week and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5, which came shortly after EA's acquisition by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund, Silver Lake and Affinity Partners.
