Skyblivion team rebuilds code after dispute with former volunteers

TESRenewal announced on its official X account on October 31, 2026, that a dispute has arisen with former volunteers who left the Skyblivion project, the team behind the Oblivion remake mod for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. According to gamespark.jp, the disagreement followed the team's decompilation of part of a former volunteer's work.
The team said the decompilation was necessary to maintain existing systems and fix bugs after losing access to the original source code. The former volunteer side suggested legal action and demanded that team leads disclose their real names and home addresses, which the team described as excessive.
To avoid a conflict, TESRenewal deleted the affected code and rebuilt the system from scratch. The team said it had consulted a lawyer and is confident in its right to maintain the code.
TESRenewal added that threats from the former volunteer side have continued and asked the community not to carry out witch-hunt-style personal attacks. The team said work toward release is continuing and that it will share more information about the planned release soon.
It is also recruiting volunteers with legal knowledge through its official website, and said it may not be able to answer all questions because of the ongoing legal issue.
Delayed release and earlier recruitment
Skyblivion recreates The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion's map, quests and characters inside Skyrim and has been in development for over 10 years. In December 2025, the team said the release originally planned for within 2025 had been delayed to 2026. In September 2026, it recruited volunteers for video production such as trailers and developer interviews.
