Sony lifts games profit forecast to 700 billion yen
PlayStation monthly active users hit a record 127 million in September, while PS5 unit sales fell 35% year-on-year to 2.6 million.
Sony Group said at its Q2 FY2026 earnings briefing on November 5 that PlayStation monthly active users reached a record 127 million accounts in September, up 7% year-on-year. The company also raised its full-year operating profit forecast for its Game & Network Services segment by 40 billion yen to 700 billion yen, according to gamebiz.jp.
Segment revenue for the quarter rose 9% year-on-year to 1,208.5 billion yen, and operating profit climbed 83% to 220.1 billion yen, a record for a second quarter. Total play time in the quarter increased 4% year-on-year.
Hardware was the weak point: PS5 unit sales fell 35.0% year-on-year to 2.6 million units in the quarter. Sony nonetheless expects full-year PS5 sales to exceed its initial forecast of 9 million units.
Memory costs and a release delay
Sony said it has offset rising memory prices through promotions, price adjustments and additional cost reductions, and expects FY2026 hardware profit and loss to be roughly level with the previous year. The company added that it has agreed with suppliers to secure the memory volumes needed for its planned hardware sales.
On software, Marvel's Wolverine, released in September, has sold more than 2.4 million copies. Sony also decided to delay God of War: Laufey to the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 2028.
