Total War: Shogun 2 mod s2fix lifts battle FPS by about 50%

Modder Meisgoot312 released the open-source s2fix on GitHub, with version 0.2.3 adding campaign-map optimizations for both game versions.

Modder Meisgoot312 has released an open-source performance mod called s2fix for Total War: Shogun 2 and Total War: Shogun 2 – Complete Edition, according to Wccftech. Version 0.2.3 adds campaign-map optimizations on top of earlier work aimed at battle-scene frame rates.

The mod is distributed through GitHub Releases in separate packages for the original 32-bit game and the 64-bit Complete Edition. It requires DirectX 11 and is installed by extracting files into the game directory.

In the developer's testing, CPU-limited battle scenes ran roughly 50% higher in FPS, with one benchmark rising from 142 FPS to 210 FPS. GPU utilization in those tests rose from about 40% to 70–80%.

Campaign map gains

Version 0.2.3 also targets the campaign map: one idle campaign-map scene improved from 62.6 FPS to 148 FPS in the developer's numbers. The mod raises the original game's reported VRAM allowance from about 3 GB to nearly 4 GB.

Compatibility testing was mainly done with NVIDIA drivers, and the mod was tested alongside several popular gameplay mods. The developer's performance figures have not been independently verified across different hardware.
