Unofficial Vagrant Story PC Port Adds Ray Tracing and Path Tracing
A fan-made native PC version of the Square Enix RPG, built on the rood-reverse decompilation, runs on Windows and Linux with an optional companion mod.
An unofficial native PC port of Square Enix's Vagrant Story, released under the name rood-boi, has appeared online, wccftech.com reported. The project was developed by Daemeous.
The port is built on the rood-reverse decompilation and runs the original game logic natively on x86-64, without an emulator or a MIPS interpreter. It works on both Linux and Windows.
It adds a modern Vulkan/OpenGL renderer with hardware ray-traced shadows, path-traced or probe-based global illumination denoised with NVIDIA NRD, and volumetric haze. The original PS1 textures and geometry are kept intact.
Two optional extras are included: a weapon-slot feature for swapping weapons quickly during play, and a companion mod that makes Callo Merlose accompany protagonist Ashley Riot, fighting, healing and casting spells independently. She disappears during cutscenes.
Vagrant Story is a classic PlayStation title from Square Enix. The port is not an official Square Enix release.
