Dire Wolf announces War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time board game for 2027
The strategy board game draws on all 14 Wheel of Time novels and lets the Dark One win; its Kickstarter raised over $1.1 million from 6,000 backers.
Dire Wolf has announced War of the Dragon: The Wheel of Time, an official strategy board game based on Robert Jordan's fantasy series, scheduled for release in 2027. According to Screen Rant, the game's Kickstarter campaign raised more than $1.1 million from over 6,000 supporters.
The game draws from all 14 main Wheel of Time novels, beginning around the events of The Shadow Rising and building toward the Last Battle. It ships with two modes: an accessible Hero Mode and a larger Epic Mode that includes Tarmon Gai'don.
Players control the forces of Light or Shadow. On the Light side they develop characters such as Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon and Egwene al'Vere; on the Shadow side they unleash the Forsaken. The final outcome is not predetermined, so the Dark One could theoretically win.
The novels were written by Jordan, who died before completing the series, and finished by Brandon Sanderson. In May 2025, Amazon cancelled its Prime Video adaptation of The Wheel of Time after three seasons.
