CD Projekt Red Pauses The Witcher Remake, Modder Reworks Combat

Development of The Witcher Remake is on hold over technology dependencies with The Witcher 4, as a fan mod ports The Witcher 3 combat to the 2007 original.

CD Projekt Red has temporarily suspended development of The Witcher Remake, citing technology dependencies with The Witcher 4 as the reason it needs more time. The pause was reported by wccftech.com.

Separately, a modder posting under the Reddit handle w4rlock999 is building a combat overhaul for the original The Witcher on PC. The modder shared a work-in-progress video on the Witcher subreddit.

The mod aims to port The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's animations and combat mechanics into the first The Witcher game. According to the modder, it is still in a rough state.

Two very different combat systems

When the original The Witcher launched in 2007, it used a rhythm-based combat system built on BioWare's Aurora Engine. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt featured a different combat system, and its animations are the ones the mod seeks to reuse.

CD Projekt Red has not given a date for when work on The Witcher Remake will resume.
