Wizards of the Coast Won't Voluntarily Recognize D&D, Studio X Unions

The company told its union it prefers dealing directly with employees, and said it will respect the result of the coming election.

Wizards of the Coast has told the United Wizards of the Coast Union that it does not intend to voluntarily recognize the Dungeons & Dragons and Studio X bargaining units ahead of the coming union election, according to PC Gamer. The company said it will respect the result of the vote.

The company also said it is not neutral on the question of unionization, and that it prefers working directly with employees rather than through unions.

The union, known as UWOTC-CWA, is seeking fair wages, career progression, job security, remote work protections, sustainable workloads, healthcare and AI protections.

Earlier organizing

In June 2026, employees on the Magic: The Gathering Arena team unionized and gave Wizards of the Coast until May to formally recognize the union. Later that month, the company sent physical letters and daily emails to employees encouraging them not to vote for the union and implying that current benefits would be open to negotiation.

Wizards of the Coast and Digital Gaming reported $568 million in operating profit over the past six months, while consumer products lost $62 million and entertainment brought in $23 million.
