A24 Enters Club Kid in Golden Globes Drama Race
The Jordan Firstman film will compete in drama categories instead of musical/comedy, with a platform theatrical release starting Friday.
A24 has submitted Club Kid for Golden Globes consideration in the drama category rather than in musical/comedy, the studio has confirmed. The classification places the film in the Globes picture, actor and actress races.
Club Kid is Jordan Firstman's feature directorial debut; he wrote the film, directed it and stars in it. According to hollywoodreporter.com, the decision was made in close consultation with Firstman.
As a drama, the film will compete for picture and acting honors alongside The Odyssey, La Bola Negra, Dune: Part Three, Elsinore, All of a Sudden, Fjord and Possible Love.
Club Kid begins a platform theatrical release on Friday.
Festival Run Behind the Submission
The film had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, where it received a seven-minute standing ovation and sparked an overnight bidding war among distributors. It sold to A24 for $17 million, the biggest sale of the festival, and has since played at Telluride, Toronto and New York, among other festivals.
